Georgian government approves student admission quotas at state universities

Givi Mikanadze, Georgia’s Minister of Education, Science and Youth, announced that admission quotas at state universities will be allocated in accordance with the ‘one city – one faculty’ principle, established as part of the higher education reform. This approach aims to reflect the traditional profile of each university while ensuring equitable distribution.

Specifically, the minister stated that admissions at Tbilisi State University will cover faculties in exact and natural sciences, humanities (excluding pedagogy), law, economics, and business administration, as well as social and political sciences.

At the Georgian Technical University (GTU), admissions will focus on engineering and technical disciplines.

Tbilisi State Medical University will open admissions for medical specialities.

Ilia State University will offer places in pedagogy programmes and STEM fields accredited by ABET.

Sukhumi State University will admit students into agrarian specialities, Georgian-Abkhazian language and literature, and pedagogy.

Arts universities and the University of Sports will accept students in their respective fields.

Batumi and Kutaisi universities will continue their diverse, multi-disciplinary programmes.

Meanwhile, Zugdidi, Gori, Akhaltsikhe, and Telavi universities will prioritise agrarian disciplines, tourism, and pedagogy. (1tv.ge)
